What streak statistics actually tell you
A streak is a sample of recent matches with the noise stripped out. Six straight matches with over 2.5 goals says something specific: this team's current attacking and defensive shape produces goals, repeatedly, against varied opposition. That is real information, and it is information the market absorbs slowly for teams outside the top leagues.
The key distinction is between pattern streaks and result streaks. Pattern streaks (BTTS, over/under, scoring, conceding) describe how a team's matches look and tend to persist, because they come from stable causes: a high defensive line, a lack of fit centre backs, a striker in form. Result streaks (wins, unbeaten runs) depend heavily on who the opposition happened to be, and regress faster. Statistically, a long BTTS streak is worth more to a bettor than a win streak of the same length.
How to use streak stats in predictions
- Check the streak's opposition: six overs against attacking sides is weaker evidence than six against defensive ones
- Check the other side of tonight's fixture: a BTTS streak meets a hard test against a team that keeps clean sheets
- Prefer streaks in smaller leagues, where prices adjust slower and the streak often is not fully priced in
- Compare the implied probability of the price against the streak-informed estimate; no gap, no bet
- Treat a broken streak as new information about the profile, not as a reason to chase the next one

Streak base rates worth knowing
Across the leagues we track, roughly half of all matches finish over 2.5 goals and just over half produce both teams scoring, with meaningful variation by league. That baseline matters when judging a streak: a five-match BTTS streak in a league where 60 percent of games are BTTS is mildly interesting; the same streak in a league at 45 percent is a real signal. League context is also why copying streak tips between leagues fails; the same number means different things in the Eredivisie and in Serie A.
Length matters less than most people think beyond a point. The difference in evidence between a five-match and a seven-match streak is small; both say "this profile is current and stable". What matters more is the consistency of the underlying numbers: a BTTS streak where every match had goals by the 60th minute is stronger than one held together by two stoppage-time consolation goals.
